Procurement and supply chain professionals are under increasing pressure to drive value, manage risk, and ensure ethical, sustainable sourcing. Whether you’re new to the field or looking to move into a senior strategic role, gaining a professional qualification from the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) can be a powerful way to advance your career.
At SRSCC, we specialise in delivering CIPS-accredited training that supports learners at every stage of their professional journey. With high pass rates, expert tutors, and flexible study options, we help individuals and organisations achieve their goals.
This guide explores the different CIPS qualification levels, how to choose the right one, and how we support your success every step of the way.
What Are CIPS Qualifications?
CIPS qualifications are internationally recognised and widely respected across both the public and private sectors. They are designed to provide the knowledge, skills, and behaviours that procurement professionals need to succeed.
Each level in the CIPS framework builds on the last. Levels 3 to 6 cover everything from operational understanding through to strategic leadership. Those who complete Levels 4 to 6 and have relevant work experience can apply for MCIPS status, which signals professional excellence and credibility across the industry.

Which CIPS Level Should You Choose?
The right level for you will depend on your current role, experience, and future aspirations. Below is a breakdown of the four levels offered at SRSCC, including typical learner profiles, course content, and career relevance.
CIPS Level 3: Advanced Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations
Who is it for?
This level is aimed at individuals who already work in procurement or supply but do not yet have formal qualifications. It’s also suitable for people supporting procurement activities in roles such as administration or operations.
What will you learn?
The course introduces key procurement concepts, including supply chain fundamentals, stakeholder engagement, procurement systems, and inventory management. It provides the terminology and context professionals need to operate effectively.
Why study with SRSCC?
Our Level 3 learners benefit from an 85% pass rate, compared to a 75% national average. This reflects the high standard of support and delivery provided by our expert tutors.
CIPS Level 4: Diploma in Procurement and Supply
Who is it for?
Level 4 is often the first step for those who are serious about developing a long-term career in procurement. It is suitable for professionals already working in the field, as well as those who hold A-levels or equivalent qualifications.
What will you learn?
This diploma provides a comprehensive understanding of procurement and supply operations. You will study sourcing strategies, contract development, supplier relationships, risk management, and ethical practices. The course also introduces commercial and financial awareness relevant to procurement.
Career impact
Completing Level 4 can open the door to management roles and is the first required step on the path to MCIPS.
SRSCC performance
We have a 91% pass rate for Level 4, far exceeding the national average of 69%.
CIPS Level 5: Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply
Who is it for?
This level is designed for experienced procurement professionals looking to move into more senior or strategic roles. It is suitable for those who have completed Level 4 or hold equivalent experience. This is the final step before achieving a degree-level qualification and MCIPS status.
What will you learn?
You will gain the skills to lead procurement projects, develop supply strategies, manage risk across complex supply chains, and understand the financial drivers behind sourcing decisions. The course also explores logistics, operations, and global sourcing.
Professional Value
Level 5 prepares learners for mid to senior management roles and lays the groundwork for strategic thinking and leadership development.
CIPS Level 6: Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply
Who is it for?
Level 6 is the highest qualification offered by CIPS and is intended for professionals already operating at a senior strategic level. It is the final step before achieving MCIPS status.
What will you learn?
This course focuses on leadership, corporate strategy, change management, and governance. It equips you to shape procurement policy, drive innovation, and align procurement with organisational objectives.
Career relevance
Professionals who complete Level 6 are well positioned for director-level and executive roles. The course challenges learners to apply complex decision-making and lead transformational change.
Results with SRSCC
Our learners achieve an 84% pass rate at this level, compared to a national average of 70%.
What Is MCIPS Status?
MCIPS (Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) is a globally respected designation. It demonstrates that you operate to a professional standard and have the capability to lead procurement activity with integrity, insight, and strategic impact.
To apply for MCIPS, you must complete Levels 4, 5 and 6 and have at least three years of relevant experience in a responsible procurement or supply chain role.
MCIPS is often required for senior positions in both public and private sector organisations, and it can significantly increase your earning potential.
MCIPS by examination route is often required for senior positions. MCIPS can be achieved either by completing the CIPS qualifications (Levels 4–6) or by completing a course directly with CIPS called the Corporate Award. However, the Corporate Award does not require learners to sit exams, making it an easier route – but it’s not one we offer and not the route we encourage.
