Finding the right training provider is essential for developing a capable, confident procurement team. For York St John University, what began as a mandatory transition quickly evolved into a trusted, long-term partnership that delivered tangible results for their supply chain department.
The Transition to SRSCC
York St John University initially began working with SRSCC after the closure of the NEUPC Study Centre, which resulted in learners being transferred to our programmes. While the initial move was a necessity, the decision to stay and grow the partnership was a deliberate choice. Following the start of her first apprentice with SRSCC, Victoria Murden observed our approach firsthand. Impressed by the setup, onboarding, support, systems, and processes, she confidently chose to enrol a second apprentice with SRSCC.
Support That Adapts to Real Life
Apprenticeships require dedication, and occasionally, unexpected life events can interrupt a learner’s progress. We understand that flexibility is crucial to long-term success.
When one of the university’s apprentices faced an unexpected life event, SRSCC facilitated a pause in their studies. During this period, our team continued to conduct check-ins to ensure the apprentice was okay, demonstrating that our support extends beyond the curriculum. Victoria noted that the service lived up to her expectations, highlighting the excellent service and great support provided, especially when circumstances changed.
From Booking Travel to Managing Tenders
The true measure of an apprenticeship is the practical impact it has on the business. For York St John University, the transformation in their apprentices’ capabilities has been significant.
Before their training, the apprentices predominantly handled administrative tasks, such as booking travel. Through their studies, personal interest, and the need to gather practical evidence, they have since become actively involved in tenders and run market exercises.
This progression has allowed the apprentices to take on more work and experience greater variety in their roles. Crucially, they have been able to directly apply the theoretical knowledge they have learned to their daily responsibilities.
A Standout Success:
One notable achievement involved an apprentice managing an entire tender from start to finish. While she received full support at every stage, the project was entirely hers to run—a testament to her growing confidence and capability.
A Recommended Partnership
A successful apprenticeship relies on a strong tripartite relationship between the learner, the employer, and the training provider. Victoria reports that her apprentices are happy, feel supported, and enjoy learning while putting it into practice at work, fully supported by their line manager.
When asked if she would recommend SRSCC to other employers, Victoria’s answer was a clear yes. She attributes this to the good processes, strong onboarding, excellent support for both students and line managers, great communications, and regular meetings.
