Neve Mellor Recognised as a Future Leader in Procurement
We’re delighted to celebrate the success of one of our incredible apprentices, Neve Mellor, who has been recognised as a rising star and future leader in procurement.
Neve, a Contract Management Apprentice at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, was named the Skills Development Future Leader Award winner at the Yorkshire and Humber Skills Development Network Conference and Awards 2025. This prestigious recognition highlights not only her personal achievements but also the vital role that apprenticeships play in shaping the next generation of procurement professionals.
Why Neve Stood Out
Nominated by Cheryl Gibbons, Head of Procurement and Supplies, Neve impressed judges with her professionalism, curiosity, and ability to make a real impact at an early stage in her career. Despite being relatively new to procurement, she has already contributed meaningfully to the Trust’s Contract Management and Social Value Team.
Her initiative in researching the social value impacts of contracts demonstrates her commitment to responsible, forward-thinking procurement practices. This is an area that is becoming increasingly important for both the NHS and wider organisations, as procurement decisions are expected to support not just financial value but also community, social, and environmental benefits.
Apprenticeship Success
Alongside her role, Neve is completing her Level 3 Procurement and Supply Assistant Apprenticeship with SRSCC. She is excelling in her Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) studies, having already passed exams with outstanding results.
Apprenticeships are designed to blend theory with practice — and Neve is an excellent example of how that combination delivers results. Her ability to apply classroom learning to real-world challenges, while gaining confidence in engaging with stakeholders at every level, shows how quickly apprentices can grow into high-value members of their teams.
The Importance of Future Leaders in Procurement
Procurement is a profession that touches every sector, from healthcare and education to construction and local government. Developing future leaders in procurement is essential to ensure organisations have the talent and skills they need to respond to challenges such as supply chain disruption, sustainability goals, and evolving regulations.
Neve’s recognition highlights the importance of investing in young professionals who can bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas. By championing apprenticeships, organisations can nurture talent early on and strengthen their procurement functions for the long term.
SRSCC’s Role in Developing Talent
At SRSCC, we are incredibly proud to support apprentices like Neve. For more than two decades, we have worked with employers across the UK to provide accredited training, apprenticeships, and consultancy support in procurement and supply chain management.
Our apprenticeship programmes are designed to give learners the tools, confidence, and professional qualifications needed to succeed. Neve’s journey is a powerful example of how the right support, combined with determination and curiosity, can fast-track a career in procurement.
Looking Ahead
Neve’s award is a milestone in her career, but it’s also just the beginning. As she continues to progress through her apprenticeship and CIPS studies, we are excited to see the impact she will have not only within the NHS but across the procurement profession more broadly.
Her success is also a reminder to employers of the value of apprenticeships. By opening doors for early talent, organisations can build diverse, resilient, and skilled procurement teams that are ready to meet both today’s and tomorrow’s challenges.
